(41,764 posts)the officially approved Q'uran sold in the West, and can tell you that they do believe in martyrdom in the name of their Allah.
Whether you think they have some stated goal and whether or not you think it's relevant isn't really up to any of us anyway.
Totally get that we don't want to be the agents of Iranians' deaths. Or of Israelis' deaths. And we won't be. It's not our war. Yes, Israel is our ally, and we will support it, because we and the British helped establish Israel before it declared itself a nation state in 1948. The British Empire made several things happen before WWII and the Holocaust:
-- The Balfour Declaration (1917) was a statement by the British government that expressed support for the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine. It was their millennial home for thousands of years before the US and Europe ever existed.
-- The British Mandate for Palestine: Following the Treaty of Sèvres, the League of Nations granted control of Palestine to the British, with the goal of implementing the Balfour Declaration.
-- After the Allies won WWII, the UN Partition Plan (Resolution 181) passed in 1947 by the United Nations General Assembly, recommended the partition of Palestine into two independent states, one Arab and one Jewish, with Jerusalem under international administration.
This plan was accepted by the Jewish leadership, but rejected by Arab states.
-- Then, the British Mandate ended on May 14, 1948, leading to the Israeli Declaration of Independence (in Tel Aviv) as a nation state, and the subsequent 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
Whether you think it's relevant or not, there's no biblical basis for these RW apocalypse yearnings, either, because the Bible -- which I've read, studied at university level, and taught in Sunday school in two different denominations -- says no such thing.
This narrative that these self deceived christians tell themselves is just the latest iteration of a couple hundred times that christian hotheads have proclaimed "end times." No one at the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem thinks this, either. It's all bullshit.
But one thing is historically true: Israel deserves to exist in its millennial homeland and has been fighting off those who would destroy it from the days of the Roman Empire to the days of Islamic-Arab state attacks in the 20th Century.
