Greene wins Michigan Senate special election, Democrats retain control of chamber

(Michigan Advance) Democrat Chedrick Greene, a Saginaw fire captain and former U.S. Marine, was elected to the Michigan Senate on Tuesday night with 60% of the vote, defeating Republican Jason Tunney in a crucial special election that keeps Democrats in control of the chamber through the end of 2026. “This is a win for affordability, for people who do everything right but still struggle because their wages aren’t keeping up with the solar prices,” Greene said in his victory speech.

Gasoline costs 50% more in the US than it did before the Iran war

(AP) The price of a gallon of regular gasoline climbed 31 cents in the past week, spiking to an average of $4.48 per gallon Tuesday, according to AAA, hitting the wallets of drivers after rising 50% since the war with Iran began. The main reason drivers are paying more at the pump is because of the global energy crisis caused by the Iran war.

Poll: Trump blamed for gas prices as Democrats gain midterm edge

(NPR) With gas prices continuing to surge, more than 8 in 10 Americans said pain at the pump is putting a strain on their household budgets — and a strong majority blames President Trump, according to the latest NPR/PBS News/Marist poll. The poll also found that Trump is more unpopular than he ever has been, and he faces major declines with key groups since being sworn in for a second term. Most Americans said the economy isn't working for them, and the war in Iran — which has directly led to those higher gas prices — continues to grow more unpopular.

900 Health Facilities Shutting Down or Risk Collapse As Trump-GOP Cuts 'Ripple Across the Country'

(Common Dreams) An advocacy group tracking the impacts of the unprecedented Medicaid cuts that congressional Republicans and President Donald Trump enacted last year said Monday that at least 900 hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities are now shutting down or at risk of closure—a disaster for low-income Americans who lack easy access to care. Protect Our Care’s Hospital Crisis Watch project has identified healthcare centers that have closed or are at risk of closing, cutting services, and shutting down wards as they grapple with the impacts of the GOP’s 2025 budget law, which included over $1 trillion in total healthcare cuts over the next decade.

New satellite analysis reveals massive damage US military sites suffered from airstrikes

(Raw Story) A comprehensive Washington Post analysis of satellite imagery reveals that Iranian airstrikes have inflicted far more extensive damage on U.S. military installations across the Middle East than publicly acknowledged, destroying or damaging at least 228 structures and pieces of equipment at 15 bases since the war began on Feb. 28. The scale of destruction significantly exceeds previous reports, the Post analysis found. The New York Times previously documented strikes at 14 installations, NBC News reported 100 targets across 11 bases and CNN identified 16 damaged installations, but the Post's satellite imagery analysis found 217 damaged structures and 11 pieces of destroyed equipment — revealing a substantially broader scope of Iranian capability and precision.

'Get the children away': Outrage breaks out over Trump's startling remarks around kids

(Raw Story) People were stunned on Tuesday after President Donald Trump started touting his unpopular Iran war and discussing it in front of a group of children in the Oval Office. The kids were at the White House to celebrate Trump's signing of a proclamation to restore the Presidential Fitness Test award, and in the press briefing, the president ranted about trans athletes in youth sports, then attempted to make his case for the Middle East conflict. Media experts were astounded by Trump's comments, with some calling out the president for his misinformation and decision to talk with children about adult topics.

A document posted to an official government contracting website by ICE on November 12, described the situation as an “absolute emergency” that needed to be resolved “immediately” to “prevent any further medical complications or loss of life.”
