The Roberts Court let Donald Trump fire Federal Trade Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter, effectively overturning a nearly century-old precedent shielding that position from political interference.
The order in Trump v. Slaughter is widely viewed as the death knell for the Supreme Court's 1935 decision in Humphrey's Executor that makes independent agencies possible.
