8. I remember one of my friends in grade school

had a mother who worked. The only one I had ever heard of. It went like this. "She works. Not always but someone else always has to bring her daughter home from school or else she would come home to an empty house." *eyes would go back and forth and heads would nod side to side in judgement* "She doesn't even have to work!" "When she does not work she plays golf can you imagine?" There were only 3 girls my age in the neighborhood and the other 2 of us were rarely allowed to play with the other girl. She was a nice girl too. Such a damned shame. Good old white suburbia. Straight up middle class. We went to school with the richest in the city so you can imagine what was said of us as well. "They only go on vacation to visit family!" lol
