They are pointless. Natural born humans will never have a significant presence in space.

We ought to indulge China's pride, cheer when they land people on the moon, and let that be the end of it.

My greatest fear at the moment is that Musk, now that he is handling the levers of political power, will grow bored and careless about human space exploration before all our astronauts are safely back on the ground.
