3. I am still using my 1980 microwave.

It works like a charm, although the bulb blew out a few years ago and I don't know how to get to it to replace it. Not a big deal, it doesn't have a function in using the oven.

This microwave was from Houston, and it was hot there. It has moved several times without a problem. I think you are right, they are close to indestructible.
