3. There's nothing to "enable"

DU does not use off-the-shelf software. Our software was hand-coded from scratch, and the last time we did a full rebuild was back in 2011. At the time, we did not include image uploading as a feature (except for avatar images, because they are tiny) due to bandwidth, storage space, and copyright issues. To be clear, these are still issues today, but the bigger issue is that if we wanted to allow image uploading, it's not a case of simply "enabling" a feature. We would have to build the architecture from the ground up, and the effort and time required would not be worth the return, since most people are fine just uploading to a third party site and then linking.

For what it's worth, probably the easiest way to do it from your phone is to use https://postimages.org -- you can upload an image directly from your phone without having to create an account, and you are immediately given a link that will work on DU.
