Sounds like a driver conflict causing the necessary program to display the photos and images to not respond.

The router would not selectively open programs, that comes from the system itself...the router merely connects to the datastream that is the internet.

I am no expert for sure, but sometimes older programs and newer updates to Windows requires that you also update the programs themselves. You may need to update your Facebook version (and any other program that is giving you the same problems)...
