I've never watched it but am familiar enough with it to (hopefully) catch the reference.

I agree with Gilligan's Island. Many over the years have dismissed it as yet another example of mindless '60s sitcoms, but there's a lot going on there below the surface. Some years back I read a compelling article that drew parallels between it and Shakespeare's The Tempest. And, they named the ship the Minnow after the FCC chairman that declared tv a "vast wasteland." I was born a few months after it was canceled, but in the '70s I used to watch it every day after school, it was a fixture of my childhood.
