5. Wonderful. Unfortunately many people get dogs from a shelter

and the dog may have been surrendered because of life circumstances with the original owner.

Then the new adopters don't understand the commitments needed and turn around to give the dog back. Shelters allow this return policy in many cases.

So it is not that unusual to see an animal that has been on this roller-coaster - no fault of the animal. It is the responsibility of the shelter to be up-front and honest with any potential new adopters.
