Bitcoin kidnapping suspects linked to two Smithland properties [View all]

SMITHLAND, Ky. — After the possible raid of the $1 million “Smith Mansion” in Smithland, Kentucky, Tuesday by state police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the New York Police Department in an ongoing "violent crime" investigation, a reputable public official with Livingston County confirmed Wednesday that the riverfront property is owned by John Woeltz.
Woeltz, who is originally from Paducah, and William Duplessie, who is from Florida, are two cryptocurrency investors accused of kidnapping and torturing a man in Manhattan in an attempt to get the man’s Bitcoin password.
Woeltz, 37, and Duplessie, 32, are in jail for the alleged kidnapping and torture of Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan, 28, in a townhouse they were renting in New York City. According to prosecutors, Carturan alleges the two tortured him for 17 days in an attempt to obtain his password for a Bitcoin account that contained approximately $28 million worth of cryptocurrency.
