Judge Bob Bailey to switch parties and become a Democrat [View all]

MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- Montgomery Circuit Judge Bob Bailey, who was appointed to the bench by Republican Gov. Robert Bentley, is switching to the Alabama Democratic Party.

The State Democratic Executive Committee this afternoon gave Bailey permission to join the Alabama Democratic Party after he petitioned to join their ranks.

"I am a Democrat. I felt bad every single meeting cause there is an 'R' by my name," Bailey told committee members.

Bailey was appointed by Bentley in December of 2011 to fill a vacancy left by the sudden resignation of Judge Patricia Warner in the Family Court Division.

Bailey is a 30-year veteran of the Family Court System and has served as a Juvenile Referee for more than 23 years. He held the judgeship on an interim basis until his appointment became permanent.
