(14,956 posts)41. The 1970's Station Wagon averaged 12 mpg highway. 22 gallon tank
Boy howdy I really want one; what with gas averaging around $3 - $5 per gallon wherever it is you're located. Heck, bring back those leaded fumes while you're at it.
Give me a cream colored woodie, one with 3 on the tree or 4 on the floor. I don't care! (What, you never drove stick?)
I need that vroom, vroom feeling to take me back to my childhood.
Ah. The scent of car-sick six-year olds and naugahyde rear facing bench seats in the back of the wagon...
Duffy's a F'ing idiot.
On edit. Corrected the mpg in the header. I looked up my uncle's old Impala station wagon; averaged 10 city/12 highway.
Dad's Valiant (considered a compact vehicle) got an average of 15 mpg.

Seats nine and 30% of passengers are in that rear seat always looking backwards. Sounds familiar.

U.S. consumers made their choices. They don't want 70's wagons. They want massive SUV's.

Why did I immediately think of "The Brady Bunch"? They must've had a station wagon.

The 1970s was probably the worst decade for American cars in the last 75 years. So why would we want to revisit it?

I took my driver's test in a 1978 Malibu wagon with wood siding. I really loved driving that car.
