Kamilla Cardoso Credits Dawn Staley's Halftime Text After Making WNBA History
Chicago Skys Kamilla Cardoso gave a shoutout to former coach Dawn Staley after she made WNBA history on Friday night. Cardoso broke Nneka Ogwumikes record for most consecutive field goals made without a miss after going 13 of 13 from the field to score 30 points in the Skys 124-94 win over the Portland Fire.
Cardoso knew it was one of those nights after she read an encouraging text from Staley at halftime, when she was 7-for-7 from the field. The Sky center revealed Staleys text after the game:
(She said), Just keep playing hard, Millie. Im super proud of you. She texts me all the time. Just to make me feel confident and to let me know shes always in my corner.
WNBA reporter Kareem Copeland asked the question and Cardoso credited her former college coach for inspiring her special night.
