Paige Bueckers bounces back to lead UConn women's basketball in decisive 101-59 win vs Butler
The UConn womens basketball team extended its Big East win streak to 38 consecutive games with one of its best offensive showings of the season, routing Butler 101-59 on Sunday in front of a sold-out crowd at the XL Center.
Superstar Paige Bueckers bounced back from a 2-for-10 shooting night at DePaul on Wednesday with a statement performance against the Bulldogs. The redshirt senior finished with 18 points shooting 50% from the field, and she also logged a team-high five assists, three steals and two blocks.
Redshirt junior Azzi Fudd added 13 points hitting 3-for-4 beyond the arc, and sophomore Ashlynn Shade matched her with 13 plus four rebounds shooting 5-for-7 from the field. UConn finished with six different players in double-digits: Freshman phenom Sarah Strong added 11 points, five boards and four blocks, while sophomore KK Arnold put up 12 shooting 6-for-6 with four steals, and redshirt freshman Jana El Alfy logged 10 plus four rebounds.
If youre able to get multiple people in double figures, and if youre able to do that in the first half, thats fantastic, coach Geno Auriemma said. If it comes in the fourth quarter, thats like the three-run home run when youre up 8-2 in the ninth inning. So we have to make sure that were able to distribute the ball enough, and people have to be productive. I think thats when were at our best, so that these first halves and some of these first quarters have given us an opportunity to spread it around. Obviously, when Paige is aggressive like she was, it changes things a little bit for us.
