Were one step closer to reading an octopuss mind
A recording device and electrodes were implanted in the very flexible cephalopods.

Nine brains, blue blood, instant camouflage: Its no surprise that octopuses capture our interest and our imaginations. Science-fiction creators, in particular, have been inspired by these tentacled creatures.
An octopus's remarkable intelligence makes it a unique subject for marine biologists and neuroscientists as well. Research has revealed the brain power of the octopus allows it to unscrew a jar or navigate a maze. But, like many children, the octopus also develops an impish tendency to push the boundaries of behavior. Several aquariums have found octopuses memorizing guard schedules to sneak into nearby tanks to steal fish; meanwhile, marine biologists have discovered that wild octopuses will punch fish for no apparent reason.

(8,267 posts)Since they camo themselves to blend into surroundings, and since, when they sleep and apparently dream, and camo themselves then too, we should be able to interpret their dreams, to some extent. Will have to go read that article to see what they're on about.

(2,452 posts)They are truly amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, which took home a 2021 Oscar for best documentary feature.
A bit of trivia, Craig Foster can hold his breath for 6 minutes, and the director, Pippa Ehrlich, can hold hers for 4 minutes.

(2,452 posts)it really pulls on the heartstrings. A few 'dour' critics fault it for that, but I don't care. I found it enjoyable, and a good refuge any time from all the crap going on in this world, and at the time I saw it, the pandemic as well.
