giving no respite peering around through fluttering darkness
gliding in and out of the receptacle to gain and lose interest
burrowing deeper into the ground with surprising sharpness
being both clever and cautious offering an ill met intelligence
inside the poor house blazing in tallow candlelight guttering
sailors drink singing songs raucous swaying in due diligence
ignoring the coming war hazing the singed moths fluttering
in shadows where the ghosts lurk looking for a life to match
well disguised from human eyes yet afraid of being exposed
low voices mutter plot evil work dreams of plans they hatch
vague scents wafting a truth belies this waste to be deposed
a silence grows of encompassing all before creation nothing
a single seed is decompressing falls in the universal rebuffing
