My grandmother once told me a story about my closest cousin's other grandparents who I also knew as a kid. And it must have occurred in the early '20s since their son, my cousin's Dad, was born in 1923.
When my cousin's grandparents were "dating," her grandfather borrowed one of those early cars from a friend, no doubt in hopes of impressing his girl. But when she stood at the door, looking out and waiting for him, she saw him pass by again and again. After several passes by her house, he finally managed to stop. He apologized and his explanation was that it took him that long to figure out how to stop!

But I love the old cars, wish more of them were saved. The Dad of one of my co-workers who lived near me restored a Model A and I loved seeing that classic car on the road! And not far up north they have an annual classic car gathering and I always notice when they're in town. 
When I was really little, I used to ride a lot with my Dad and he'd point out the different car models we passed, told me what the traffic signs said and explained the meaning of the different lines in the road, no doubt to keep me entertained, but it did give me an advantage when I started to drive...
