A pregnant dog named Maude in New Kent County, Virginia, was in critical condition after being found with a wire tightly wrapped around her neck, leaving her head severely swollen and restricting her breathing according to a Facebook post by the New Kent County Sheriff's Office Animal Protection Unit.
Maud was rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital for treatment, where she received life-saving care after the wire - which became imbedded in her flesh - was removed.
The sheriff's office believes Maude was caught in a coyote trap, which acts like a zip-tie, tightening without releasing.
Disturbingly, the veterinarian in charge of her care thinks the wire was intentionally placed around her neck.
Sign our petition urging the New Kent County Sheriff's Office Animal Protection Unit to thoroughly investigate this case and identify the person or persons responsible for endangering the lives of Maude and her puppy.

UPDATE: 1/26/2026 - The swelling in Maude's face has subsided, and she has delivered a puppy, according to local news.
