Australia Launches First Hydrogen Refueling Station for Trucks in Geelong, Powered by Green Hydrogen

Australia Launches First Hydrogen Refueling Station for Trucks in Geelong, Powered by Green Hydrogen

HydrogenFuelNews.com | June 16, 2025 | Jake Martin

Viva Energy has officially fired up Australia’s first public hydrogen refueling station for commercial vehicles, right in Geelong, Victoria. The station opened its pumps on June 13, 2025, marking a big moment for the future of clean transport in the country.

Green hydrogen on tap, made right on site

This isn’t your average fuel stop. The $61.2 million site features a powerful 2.5MW electrolyser that cranks out green hydrogen, made from nothing but recycled water and renewable electricity. It’s all part of a bigger push to build up Australia’s hydrogen infrastructure and support the shift to zero-emission technology.

Fueling the future — fast

Designed with busy fleet operators in mind, the station can refuel up to 10 hydrogen-powered trucks, buses, or garbage vehicles in under two hours. And it’s not just about hydrogen — EV fast chargers are built in too, so electric fleets can plug in and power up just as easily...snip

All in all, Viva Energy’s new station isn’t just a first — it’s a glimpse of where things are headed. A scalable, multi-energy transport hub like this could set the tone for hydrogen and zero-emission technology rollouts right across Australia...more

...operates maybe 20% of the time on so called "renewable energy!!!!!"

We're saved!!!!

Last year's WEO indicated world energy demand at 642 EJ, which works out to an average continuous power demand of 20.34 trillion watts.

Let's do math: (0.2 * 2.5 X 106Watts)/(20.34 X 101013 Watts) = 1.2 X 10-7.

Wow!!!!! 2.4 hundred billionths of the world energy demand devoted to stupid toys hyped by the fossil fuel industry.

The 642 EJ figure comes from the World Energy Outlook:

The numbers are here: 2023 World Energy Outlook published by the International Energy Agency (IEA), Table A.1a on Page 264.

Can't wait for some tiresome fossil fuel loving bullshit artist to pipe in with "better" numbers, probably from an inability to distinguish the scientific units Joule from Watt. (Happily I won't see it; I love DU's ignore list)

I don't think Australian hydrogen toys will prevent that country, or any other country, from burning in massive fires because the so called "renewable energy" scam that has successfully entrenched fossil fuels hasn't done a fucking thing to address extreme global heating.
