Freight train fatally strikes pedestrian at Edmonds waterfront
EVERETT A freight train fatally struck a pedestrian Sunday afternoon along the Edmonds waterfront, according to Edmonds police.
At 3:33 p.m., Edmonds police received the first 911 call about the incident, which occurred near the 900 block of Cary Road, Edmonds Police Cmdr. Josh McClure said. The BNSF Railway train was paused while police investigated the fatality. BNSF Railway also responded to assist. The Snohomish County medical examiner will determine an official cause and manner of death, Edmonds police said in a Facebook post Sunday.
The train resumed moving at 5:58 p.m. Sunday.
The incident blocked Edmonds-Kingston ferry access at Dayton Street and Main Street, McClure said, causing significant delays. Ferry service was paused from about 46:30 p.m., causing a backup of about 60 cars, Washington State Ferries spokesperson Diane Rhodes said. The delay caused longer lines at the Bainbridge-Seattle ferry, Rhodes said, as travelers found alternate routes.
