Mamdani heads to Harlem to win over Cuomo voters

Zohran Mamdani made his first appearance back on the campaign trail Saturday since declaring victory over Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic mayoral primary this week.

“It is the time for New Yorkers to be able to afford their rent. It is the time for New Yorkers to be able to afford their childcare. It is the time for New Yorkers to be able to afford their groceries," Mamdani said at an event hosted by the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network (NAN).

The presumptive Democratic mayoral candidate stood hand-in-hand with Sharpton at the event. If Mamdani is elected, he would be the first Muslim mayor of New York City, but he quoted Christian scripture to the packed crowd.

“I think about Psalm 35, which tell us weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning — and it has been night for far too long in this city. It has been night for the one in four New Yorkers in poverty,” Mamdani said.
