Strong turnout reported for runoff early voting in Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) The Bernalillo County Clerks Office said it is seeing a strong turnout for the Albuquerque mayoral runoff. Incumbent Tim Keller (D) is seeking his third term in office, running against former Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White (R). Two Albuquerque city council races are also on the line.
Since early voting began on Monday, the clerk said nearly 45,000 people have cast their ballots. That includes nearly 30,000 in person.
Runoffs tend to see less turnout than general elections, but the clerks office expects strong numbers to continue this cycle. I think we are anticipating a higher-than-usual runoff election turnout. In past elections, it was isolated to simply one or two city council districts, but with the mayoral election coming into play, were anticipating a higher-than-normal runoff turnout, said Nathan Jarmillo, Administrator, Bernalillo County Bureau of Elections.
Albuquerque last had a runoff election for mayor back in 2017. More than 96,000 voters participated in that runoff.
