DeSantis admin speaks on student walkouts in Florida

A day after Brevard's school board chair and superintendent warned that students who participated in walkouts against Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions would be punished, Florida's education commissioner sent out guidance on handling the issue.

"The Florida Department of Education recently received correspondence from members of the Florida legislature regarding reports of organized student protest activity occurring during the school day," Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas said in a letter issued Feb. 3 to Florida school districts. "I want to thank them for bringing this matter to my attention and for their leadership in elevating concerns related to student safety, instructional time, and the appropriate role of public schools."

1. Good to see our youth standing up. Do it en masse and the admin will have no recourse. Cut recess?

I remember the grand conspiracies in school....everyone drop your pencil at 1:30PM! THAT was not a good cause but the kids could make quite the statement by all humming loudly or closing their eyes and putting their heads down in protest for 5 minutes. Or freezing in the hallways during change of class. Will turn heads if enough do it and repeat, repeat, repeat.
