Imgur no longer works here...?

I just tried posting a new thread with photos I posted to Imgur. However, it now seems that their “create link” feature action no longer creates a link to the actual image with a .jpg suffix, so it only shows up here as a link address and not the image itself. Is there a way around this, or do we need to find a new image hosting service? I’ve tried everything in the pinned instructions, to no avail.

…but it’s a bit convoluted, as you have to post on the Impressa app, then open the post in a browser, click on the particular image you want to enlarge it, then click and hold on the resulting image and select “Copy” to get a working link.

I have argued with it too many times.

7. OldBaldy1701E -- How does it change the file to one that will not display?

postimages was doing that to me not long ago. When I'd upload a file it was ending in avif, not jpg. I came to realize that was because when I'd go to upload a file I would click on Choose images first. That brought up a picture of my desktop and I would choose the file by clicking on the file then on upload.

And every time the file would end with avif. When I went to save it as a Direct link, it came out on the Photography page as numbers and letters.

So I tried instead to place my mouse on an image on the desktop and dragged it straight into the Choose images box. And it worked. Followed the rest of the process and now every attempt ends up with jpg on the end, which becomes the image again when pasted to Photography.

Don't know what postimages has been doing with your images, but in this instance it was a simple fix. I hope this all makes sense. And that you can get another chance for postimages to work for you.

Just to have it change to .avif once it was downloaded to the site. It appears that some of the .jpg files are not compatible or something so their site changes them.

I am not sure why. I just know that it has happened on several occasions before I started re-saving the images to make sure they are the kind of .jpg that the site will keep in its original format.

Put together a procedure for posting pics to DU that works. Bear with me please.
Go to postimages.org
1. On a computer, drag the photo from your desktop to postimages Choose images box.
2. After a couple of seconds, when the upload is completed you'll see a list of links. At Direct link click on the blue and white icon at the right to copy the “direct link.”
3. In the Photography forum on DU click on Start discussion and on the next page type in a title for your photo. In the Discussion text box click paste, then at the bottom of the page click Post. Wait patiently and your photo will appear on DU.

Let me know please if this helps. It's fun to see readers respond to your photos.

I just used it to post my pics of the peregrine falcons.

Make sure that when you post an image using Imgur that the link ends in .jpg.
