Related: About this forumAcropolis of Lindos, Rhodes, Greece
Finally digging into the pictures from early spring when I went to Rhodes. The Acropolis at Lindos has been in use from near 10,000BC. Occupied by Greeks, romans, Byzantines, Knights of St. John and the Ottomans. It guards tow small harbours and was a stop for trade until usurped by the city of Rhodes around 500 AD.

(72,891 posts)Beautiful!

I have a pile of photos. from this past trip. The weather was much better for the week there than in Türkiye. When you travel on the shoulder season you take risks.

(8,801 posts)I really like seeing the boat's wake in the frame. What do you mean by "the shoulder season"?
Old Crank
(6,058 posts)But not at it's prime. In the Mediterranean the 'prime season is summer. May -Sept. Highest prices and crowds are June July August when families can travel. Shoulder would be Mid-March to early May. LAte Sept through Oct. Prices are cheaper and fewer crowds. There are more weather risks. There is almost no rain in the Med. during the summer. Having lived on Crete for 2 years winter is much more iffy. That is the rainy season and it can be as low as 32, rarely any freezes. Many places are closed, even hotels.

(6,058 posts)My wife and I moved here 10 years ago when she got a job and we fled Silicon Valley. We are working on getting my daughter to be able to stay. (Harder when you are not a high value employee.) Germany is different as to be expected. This is my 4th country to live in. Born in Canada, Crete, Greece for 2 years. A lot less stress here for us. But we are worried abut the fate of our retirement funds from the US. We are in negotiations for a flat so this looks to be permanent.

(8,801 posts)Unfortunately, I'd say you're right to be "worried abut the fate of our retirement funds from the US". This country, I think, can be seen as pretty much out of control in more than a few ways. I envy your stresslessness.

(6,058 posts)Some of the structures survived in spite of the various occupiers.
