My grandkid is playing piano with a friend of her Dad's, who played piano in Nashville for years. I'm sitting in one of my favorite spots in their house listening to piano duets and 2 people who love their art discuss tips on different ways of playing. Simply amazing.

(6,460 posts)I was at my sister's big beautiful home near the mountains. It was lots of fun, but I'm glad to get back to my two room apartment. Home is best.

(22,638 posts)My favorite part of the day is sitting in that spot, listening to my granddaughter play the piano. She isn't a prodigy, but she loves learning and playing. The guy has been a professional musician for years. It was eye opening to hear her holding her own, explaining her lessons when he asked questions about them and his explanation of how he learns songs and plays them. I was entertaining to hear them catch on to playing a duet after just a few minutes of example and explaining. It is a well-known song, but I'm so tired, I can't think of the name. We were all familiar with the tune, but we didn't know the title until the guy mentioned it.

(28,423 posts)Many years ago one of my sons asked for piano lessons. So I bought a piano, and signed myself up for lessons at the same time.
I was as mediocre as you'd expect, especially given things like I could not even begin to pick out simple tunes (Happy Birthday, Row, Row) by ear. During that time, about a year or so, my husband commented that he loved being home and hearing piano music.
It's the music, the joy of the music, and the pleasure of playing and listening that makes it all so wonderful
