No yardmen or landscapers - updated he is here

Last edited Fri Jun 27, 2025, 12:21 PM - Edit history (1)

We are worried. Our yard man did not show up yesterday and as of 9:00 am he has not arrived yet.

He never does this. This gentleman now mows yards for 5/6 houses on my street alone. Word gets out about a man who works hard.

It’s eerily quiet this morning. We live on a cul-de-sac and our street is where landscapers turn around. Nothing.

ICE is hitting gas stations in the San Antonio area, too.

I pray he is okay. His son is usually with him but not this year. He used to have two other crews working for him - but not this year.

Update - he just arrived. Truck problems yesterday and cell phone wouldn’t charge. Phew! He is the only one mowing lawns today.

1. A few months ago I noticed the landscapers looking over their shoulders every time a car/person passed by.

I walk regularly around the neighborhood and got the definite impression they were working in high alert mode, checking for friend or foe. Right now there's hardly anyone out working on yards.

2. My neighborhood, too. Several new homes going up in my older neighborhood have fewer trucks around sites.

The yard crews have vanished. I have an older man who I just hired to do my lawn who is Hispanic.
I was across the street visiting with a neighbor. Her yard crew was working at the time.
I asked him how he was doing and
he said that he needed work. I hired him on the spot.
I’m a 70 yo woman and have a third of an acre plus and it’s HOT here in DFW.
I’m sure he will do a lot better than I do.

My heart breaks for these people who just want to live in a safe place and make a living.

I’ve been noticing that the yard crew for our group of rental bungalows have changed their routines. Now a days they come in, work really hard and fast for 20-30 min and then quickly leave. They used to spend at least an hour. I suspect they work like this now because it doesn’t give anyone a chance to call ICE on them. Damn I hate this. They are a really nice group of guys.
