A Dumb Song I Remember From Childhood:

(sung to the tune of "On Top of Ol' Smoky" )

On top of Spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
I lost my poor meatball
When somebody sneezed.

It rolled off the table,
And onto the floor,
And then my poor meatball
Rolled out of the door.

It rolled to the garden,
And under a bush.
And then my poor meatball
Was nothing but mush.

I cried for my meatball
Down on bended knee,
But early next summer,
It grew to a tree.

The tree was all covered
With beautiful moss,
It grew lovely meatballs
In tomato sauce.

So if you eat Spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
Hold on to your meatball
And DON’T. EV.-ER. SNEEZE!!

(told ya it was dumb.......)
IDK why it even popped into my head this morning.

Ray Rayner used to sing this (loosely defined) song on his WGN kids show, Ray Rayner and His Friends.

Visited Chi-town once on business, passed through it once on a family trip, but that's all.

We had a music teacher that made us sing a couple of difficult songs and at the end of the class we sang this song!

Great green globs of greasy, grimy gopher guts,
Mutilated monkey meat.
Dirty little birdie feet.
French fried eyeballs rolling down a dirty street,
And me without my spoon.

The remarkable thing is how these "forbidden" songs spread among children across the country without the internet. You didn't hear them on TV or radio and were not allowed to sing them in the presence of adults. Yet from Savanah to Spokane, the lyrics were pretty much the same - with some variations.

My theory has been that kids in military families, post-WW-2 mobility, summer camps, and family reunions accelerated the process.

It was:

French fried eyeballs dipped in kerosene
And I forgot my spoon but I brought a straw -- slurp, slurp!
