So, what's the temp of your air conditioner set at today???

Southeastern MN gonna be warm and muggy today. Haven’t turned on the AC yet, but today??? I just might have to turn it on. Fingers crossed it’ll work, I know, should have had it checked, husband always did that, he’s gone now, so I gotta start learning all this stuff.

I try to set it at 75-76, but my wife always turns it down to 74, which is actually cold for me. My thermostat includes a humidistat that governs the temperature/cooling when the humidity is above a set point. I can get around the wifey issue because the stat is connected to the internet and I can change the settings remotely, which wifey is not aware that I can do that. Drives her crazy when she finds out the settings change even when I am not home. lol...........

I woke up early early this morning and was really hot, so I turned it down to 74, but keep it in the high 70s.

I'm sorry about your loss. My sister is going through the same thing as you. Her husband did all things like that, and she is having to learn how to do it all. I often moan bout having to do all these things in my life, but I guess it is good prep for me when it comes to the day my beloved is no longer with me.

But I grew up in Texas. We didn’t have air-conditioning until I was about 16. I lived in Dallas for thirty years, and in Dallas if it is 105° at noon it is still 90° at midnight. In this part of Florida the hottest months of June to October have almost daily rains about 2-4 PM. Most days it may hit the mid 90's for a couple of hours but the rains drop the temperature to the 70's. I don't use the air-conditioning, just fans. I find it very comfortable, even a bit cool around 5-8 AM.

It's only going to get up to 75 today!

Many places here in Tahoe don't even have AC, because it gets so cold at night in the Summers it balances things out pretty well. That we're supposed to have a hot day or two coming up Friday Saturday I think but hot for us is 85 with low humidity! The sun is very strong here though because the atmosphere is so thin, so you got to watch it cuz it gets hot in the Sun for sure!

Edit to add.. im sorry for the loss of your hubby. Hope you can start feeling more independent with all those details... 🥺🫂

I have no need for an air conditioner. Temperature in the summer usually in the mid- to high 70s with about two or three weeks in August when it gets in the low 80s. All I need are fans to cool my home.

What we do is wait for a warm day, turn on the AC, and adjust the thermostat until it is comfortable in the house. This is not what the "experts" recommend. It does seem to work for us. We don't worry about what the number is.

We've been here 30 years. You learn to live with it.

I recently had my car repaired. Leak in the coolant system. It was at a Firestone far from home. They got the job done but somehow reset the thermometer to Celsius. So the air conditioner in my car is set to 18.5!

I think when we NYC gets a heat wave they Con Ed asks people to set at 78°F. I'm OK w that.
And we have a nasty HW - 97° towards this Sunday - Tues? So far predicted. Ugh. Must get most of my out of nabe errands done or postponed. 😑

This past week we've had 66° - 70° daytime so I haven't had a/c on. The fan, or open windows.

shorr summer. The AC is set for 72

I may have to turn it on this weekend, when it hits 100.

However, I'm trying to use it as little as possible, to save on electricity. I'm using strategically placed fans, and I've actually been more comfortable with them than with the AC on.

However, once the air gets close to body temperature, fans become pretty much ineffective....

Here in the desert, a 'swamp box' is a common means of cooling the air.

Mine is either on or off.

Today, the outside temp is 112 F.

Inside the temp is 92 F.

Early in the morning, inside temp will be 78 F.
