(55,377 posts)Quick google, the survival rate for plane crashes generally is 95%, and even in the most serious crashes, the survival rate is 55%.
Hardly appealing, but it's not nearly the 99% certainty of instant death most people assume.

(10,642 posts)I want some measure of control, even if things are going south in a hurry. And if the worst happens, at least Im first at the scene of the accident.
I always told copilots that if you ever survive an airline accident as a crew member, you will soon wish you hadnt.
