The DU Lounge

So, we have moved into an apartment complex because we are too poor to live anywhere else. (We are too poor to live here, but we managed to fake that part out to get the place.) The apartments have a laundry on each floor. It is just one of each machine, but each floor has their own. The issue is that they use some app to do anything with them. So, I d/led the app. I did all the registration stuff and so on. I entered my card so I could put money on the machine to start it. The app says that my card, which I have had for years, was rejected because it did not 'verify'.
So, now I sit here with dirty clothes and still unable to wash them because someone decided that this was a good idea.
Sometimes, I REALLY hate our dependence on shit that is not dependable. Because we do, and they are.

(8,069 posts)That might be it.
But, the fact is this is a simple operation and they had to mess with it because they don't want to do any work from their end and it is just expected that our end should do all the work.
It looks as if I will be driving to the launderette. Not today, as hubby works and we are a single car couple. So, one more day of making laundry without being able to do anything about it.

(23,782 posts)It's ridiculous because in the effort to save time and person-power these new systems do neither.
A case in point: I went to a fast food joint and customers were required to order using one of their kiosks, (there were four of them). None of them worked properly and two employees had to hand hold the customers through the machines' software. When paying, we had to use a card or a phone but no cash.
Another time I was at JFK airport and went to a bar for a sandwich. I had to order and pay using my phone but it didn't work and the bartender had to do the whole transaction by hand. They said it almost never works properly.
What a waste of time and money. But some tech bros are making scratch...

(1,286 posts)It seems to take twice to three times as long to do anything. and many of these app companies disappear overnight, leaving people stuck. Instead being another tool to help, it's become a tool that is useless and hinders.
