Seeing that one person survived the plane crash in India reminded me of the movie Fearless.

Does anyone remember it? Peter Weir directs, and Jeff Bridges and Rosie Perez star as two survivors (him completely unscathed) of plane crash that kills or severely injures almost everyone else on board. They form an intense relationship that outsiders, including Bridges’ wife played by Isabella Rossellini, can neither understand nor penetrate. I believe it is the only movie I have ever seen that moves me to full on tears vs “getting misty” (saw it in theater, and twice more in Netflix’s physical media era.)

And I wonder how the man that survived the recent crash will carry this the rest of his life.

Anyway, thought I’d see if anyone else remembers it, appreciates it, reacts the same way I do, etc.

That makes the story even more soul-staggering.

What an unusual confluence of factors all working together, to allow this one person to survive among all of the others passing away?

Tragic.

Like you say, what a confluence of events it took to create such conditions.

Jeff Bridges was great in it, and I think it was Rosie's best performance. The whole cast was fantastic.

One of the best movie meditations on the human condition that I can personally recall. And in looking up the movie after I posted, Perez was nominated for Best Supporting that year, so yeah, she really does shine. And for anyone reading who might now be curious, Weir also directed Witness, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Truman Show, Gallipoli, and Dead Poets Society, among others.
