Trump Sparks Outrage by Claiming Federal Government Can't Fund Daycare, Medicare, or Medicaid, Saying War Comes First

Source: IBT

Published 02 April 2026, 9:22 AM BST

US President Donald Trump has sparked criticism after saying the federal government cannot fund daycare, Medicare, or Medicaid, claiming the United States must focus on military protection. Speaking at an Easter Lunch reception at the White House on Wednesday, the president told guests that social programmes should be managed by individual states rather than the federal government.

He said that states would need to raise their own taxes to cover such programmes, adding that the federal government's priority must be national defence.

Federal Funding Should Be Managed by States, Says Trump

Trump's remarks followed a discussion with Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, during which the president said, 'Don't send any money for daycare because the United States can't take care of daycare.'

He continued, 'We're fighting wars. We can't take care of daycare. You got to let a state take care of daycare and they should pay for it, too. They should pay. They'll have to raise their taxes, but they should pay for it. And we could lower our taxes a little bit to them to make up. We have to take care of one thing: military protection. We have to guard the country. But all these little things, all these little scams that have taken place, you have to let states take care of them,' Trump added.

The republicans have given the Democrats the best campaign slogans they could ever have.
I want to see Trump's face with the slogan,"War comes first" on billboards all across the nation.
I want to see prime time commercials with his actual words. And, with a further statement that the republicans in Congress never authorized his war, but provided the money for it; money that came from daycare, medicare, and medicaid.
The Iran war is not a little scam. It's a very, very big scam.
The people have to realize that the so-called antiwar president is really the pro-war president.

Donnie should have to sit in his soiled diaper until a family member comes to change him. Melania’s in New York and can’t hear you? Too bad.

And because supplemental nutrition funds are needed for the war effort, all meals at the White House shall cost under $3.00.

This is where all the Randites (adherents of Ayn Rand) think we should be.

In the libertarian canon, the government only deals with the common defense and foreign relations.

The inhabitants of our land are all completely on their own.

What a delightful vision. If you’re not rich you’re pretty well fucked. That’s the crux of the libertarian model.

28. Tax The Rich
Thu Apr 2, 2026, 12:10 PM

The Libertarian model is often touted by The Right who denounce any government support for the working class. The myth of not taxing the wealthy because it would harm the "job creators" is wearing thin. Many of the most obscenely rich have most of their wealth derived from interest on investments-- not running companies and providing good-paying jobs. And much of that wealth is hidden in offshore tax-haven accounts passed through dummy corporations. The rich would have us believe that they are entitled to rule over the masses and keep them at an economic disadvantage so they lose the ability to effectively question their authority and their oligarchic rule is preserved. This dog-eat-dog world view is short-sighted because sooner or later the masses will rise up against them. They are aware of this and that is why many of them support authoritarian rule and the control of technologies used to spy on and subjugate all who would dare to oppose them. Libertarianism has become the the social structure on which a technofascist leviathan is built.

President Trump on Monday said the U.S. should no longer serve as the “policemen of the world.”

“We more and more are not wanting to be the policemen of the world,” Trump said during a joint press conference with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We’re spending tremendous amounts of money for decades policing the world, and that shouldn’t be the priority,” he said.

Trump ran on the promise that he would extricate the U.S. from foreign wars.

https://truthout.org/articles/rubio-ironically-says-iran-should-spend-money-on-its-people-not-on-the-military/

Secretary of State Marco Rubio lectured Iran in interviews this week, saying that the country should be spending money on supporting its people rather than on weapons and militaristic causes — an ironic statement coming from an administration that has gutted the U.S.’s social safety net while requesting a record-shattering Pentagon budget.

“Imagine an Iran that, instead of spending their wealth, billions of dollars, supporting terrorists or weapons, had spent that money helping the people of Iran,” said Rubio, speaking of the administration’s hopes for regime change in their war in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday. “You’d have a much different country. So we are always hopeful that that would exist over there.”
