Malinowski concedes to Mejia in Democratic US House special primary in New Jersey

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Former congressman Tom Malinowski conceded on Tuesday to Analilia Mejia, a longtime progressive activist and former political director for Sen. Bernie Sanders, in the crowded Democratic primary in New Jersey’s U.S. House special election.

The special election is being held to fill the seat vacated when Mikie Sherrill stepped down to become governor. “I look forward to supporting her in the April general election,” Malinowski said in a statement.

Mejia overtook Malinowski by a narrow margin on election night. The Associated Press has not yet called the race.

All three counties in the district report some mail-in ballots yet to be processed. Also, mail-in ballots postmarked by election day can arrive as late as Wednesday and still be counted. She had the endorsement of noted progressives, including Sanders, an independent from Vermont, and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York.

1. The best part, A.I.P.A.C. spent millions to defeat Malinowski because he was not supportive of Israel.

Well Mejia is less supportive of Israel's positions than Malinowski.

Netanyahu's a racist and murderer like tRUMP and that is the problem. Just adding that for context. AIPAC shot itself in the foot. Eff them!

2. Strange bedfellows...

The superPAC United Democracy Project said they targeted Malinowski because of his 2019 vote to fund ICE enforcement. Malinowski blamed his loss on a 'flood of dark money from AIPAC.' I have no clue if UDP money comes from the same sources as AIPAC, but I do know that Mejia was the only candidate in the race to call Israel's conduct in Gaza genocide. It seems odd to me that a PAC that supports all things Israeli would support Mejia, who along with Malinowski also denounced the PAC's spending in the race.

That's what I heard on Meidas Touch. Mejia upended AIPAC's machinations. Good!

Alls I know, I got a shitload of post cards critical of Malinowski.
