ICE Warehouses For Mass Detention Network Rattling Locals
Source: Washington Post
The Trump administration has moved to acquire industrial buildings in at least eight states.
DHS bought two this month. One in Maryland for $102 million and another in Arizona for $70 million.
The First Two Immigrant Detention Warehouses = $172 MILLION.
El Paso TX facility will have 8,500 beds.
DJT Plan is to purchase 23 warehouses total.
1/16/26 $102 MILLION was paid for a site in Hagerstown, Maryland.
A week later $70 MILLION IN CASH was paid for a warehouse in Surprise, Arizona.
The price tags for these industry warehouses
Cover just the acquisition of the sites. All are currently empty.
ICE still has to pay companies to outfit the buildings.
Toilets, showers, beds, dining & recreation areas.
And then pay to run them as Detention Centers.

(6,341 posts)Local communities shut down Trump admin efforts to expand ICE detention centers

Multiple communities have hit back hard against the Trump administration as it seeks to expand its capacity to detain migrants across the nation, with at least one successful in shutting down an effort to turn a 26-acre warehouse into a migrant processing center, The Washington Post reported Friday.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement is working to convert industrial buildings into detention centers across 23 different towns, an effort that would expand its detention capacity by 80,000.
One such effort materialized last month after DHS altered a plan to purchase a 26-acre warehouse and transform it into a migrant processing center. News of the planned purchase spread fast, and sparked outrage among locals, outrage strong enough that the purchase ultimately fell through.
In a Facebook post, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt announced that he had spoken with the owner of the 26-acre property, and that they had confirmed to him that they were no longer engaged with DHS about a potential acquisition or lease of the property.
I commend the owners for their decision and thank them on behalf of the people of Oklahoma City, Holt wrote in a social media post on Facebook. As Mayor, I ask that every single property owner in Oklahoma City exhibit the same concern for our community in the days ahead.
Another target for ICE is Kansas City, Missouri, where officials are planning to transform a warehouse into a migrant detention facility with an inmate capacity of 7,500. When news broke of ICEs plans for the property on Jan. 15, the Kansas City City Council voted that same day to institute a five-year ban on all new nonmunicipal detention facilities, the Post reported.

(13,309 posts)I doubt that all of these people will be migrants, just as the Republican Southern Strategy from years ago was all about locking up black people so they could not vote for Democrats and then passing laws saying that ex-convicts could not vote. And with a corrupt DOJ and Supreme Court, not to mention a Republican Party that enables Trumps every heinous act, no evidence of an actual crime will be needed to lick people up. If you are found to have criticized Trump in any way, you are deemed a major criminal. Thats why Trump and Republicans want the private data from voters rolls. They need the names and locations of Democratic voters so more of them can be imprisoned.
We all need the hope that much of this can be reversed by a Democratic administration. I am losing hope that we will ever have fair elections again. We are staring at having Russias political process.
