Trump Mocks Denmark Increasing Greenland Security After US Threats: 'They Added One More Dog Sled'

President Donald Trump mocked the Kingdom of Denmark for allegedly increasing security around Greenland, telling reporters on Sunday that the country merely added one more dog sled.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, the president answered questions about the implications of his military action that captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife on Friday. Though the president reiterated his claims that America needs Greenland in the aftermath of Maduros arrest, he reacted with surprise when pushed on the topic by a reporter on Sunday.
How did we come up to Greenland? said Trump, when asked about possible U.S. action. Well, I dont want to talk about Greenland. Lets talk about Venezuela, Russia, Ukraine. Well worry about Greenland in about two months. Lets talk about Greenland in 20 days.
Rather than move on from the topic, however, the president continued on the subject, telling reporters once again about Americas strategic need for Greenland. By the way, I will say this about Greenland. We need Greenland from a national security situation. Its so strategic. Right now, Greenland is covered with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place, he said. We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security, and Denmark is not going to be able to do it, I can tell you that.

(3,441 posts)I dont care about his health or narcissism or sociopathic behavior. He is just a DICK. I dont care about the reasons why. Wanna be treated like you think you should be treated? Stop being a DICK. Too many white guys in this country that are absolute DICKS.
With all his issues, physical and psychological, the bottom line is he is a truly horrible human being and always has been. He was a nasty person when he was young and now he is a nasty old guy. The only difference is he has less self-control and often says the quiet parts out loud.

(5,172 posts)One of the worst crimes many of the Nazis were convicted of was waging aggressive war. If Trump leaves office before he dies he should face a war crimes tribunal.
Key Aspects of Aggressive War at Nuremberg
Crimes Against Peace: The International Military Tribunal (IMT) prosecuted "Crimes Against Peace," which specifically covered aggressive war.
Definition: This included planning, preparing, initiating, or waging a war of aggression, or participating in a common plan to do so.
Significance: Nuremberg established that individuals, not just states, could be held accountable for starting wars, rejecting the "act of state doctrine" that previously shielded leaders.
Examples: Charges included planning aggression against numerous countries like Poland, France, the Soviet Union, and the U.S., leading to convictions for senior Nazis like Göring and Ribbentrop.
Legacy and Evolution
Nuremberg Principles: The trials' findings led to principles recognizing aggressive war as a crime, later adopted by the UN.
Modern Law: While the International Criminal Court (ICC) focuses on genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, the concept of aggression remains a core principle, with efforts continuing to strengthen its prosecution.

(2,126 posts)The I.C.C. is independent of the U.S.. What you stated is true but doesn't mean it can't change. If we've learned anything over the past year, anything is possible. Sure, it would be smarter to take action after he's no longer in power. Dutuerte is currently in custody awaiting his trial by the I.C.C.. He was captured while in a cooperating Country. Warrants have been issued for Netanyahu and Putin.
America is currently an enemy to the world because of the Felon, this Administration and Republicans backed by Billionaires, all of whom are vulnerable in ways unimagined.
The U.S., previous to this Presidency, has historically looked favorably upon the I.C.C. with few Republican exceptions and our Military leadership but how do you account for Jack Smith working at the Hague?
The U.S. hasn't signed because they don't want to give up it's autonomy and has chosen to deal with our own issues at home. But, checks and balances has failed and the result is, we need an outside International body to hold America accountable. This is not solely a domestic issue. We are a threat with a madman in charge of an arsenal that can destroy the world many times over.

(165,753 posts)but I was responding to the person who posted that reply further up with the title - Trump is functionally illiterate so he never read about the Nuremberg Trials
I.e., noting that he doesn't care (and the sycophants in his administration who whisper in his ear and feed him misinformation, will point out why he shouldn't, despite their abysmal legal track record that bites them in the ass every time).

(2,126 posts)I'm hearing a lot of pushback on the idea of the I.C.C. as a possibility especially from people whose voices I respect and it surprises me. But, now I understand you were just providing the facts as they are, not necessarily advocating against.
Even the thought of the possibilty might give some in this Administration pause if they think about it. Not the Felon of course but maybe those that have the ability to think.

And other well-known politicians encouraged voters to disengage from the process by asking them to "leave it blank" or be "uncommitted" (and thus fulfill their obligation and never bother to show up for the general election.)

(237 posts)Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Armed Services Committee stated in an interview on MSNOW that Trump wants to be the "emperor of the western hemisphere." After his invasion of Venezuela, Trump has just repeated threats against five more countries: Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, and Greenland. Trump has a definite Napoleonic Complex or a need to conquer and to appear elevated above all others. Even the trappings of his White House ballroom remodeling is a gilded display of this pathology. His need to conquer is also revealed by his sexual abuse of women. There are very good reasons why he was sent away to military school when he was a boy. Some deals were made to cover up his bad behavior long ago. I hope one day we may hear the truth about his psychotic past from those who were bribed and/or threatened never to tell it. History is owed a full accounting of this very dark side to his biography.

all those container ships that are either Chinese or are carrying Chinese products for the American

doubt that a lot of Chinese and or Russian ships are docking in Greenland. Maybe Chinese to get fish.
Btw exactly how do you get ships onto Greenland to cover it?

On Tuesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson brushed off the idea, telling reporters that Rubio mightve made the comment in jest. The Louisiana Republican repeated the line Wednesday morning, explaining at a Capitol Hill press conference that he thinks he remembers hearing the secretary of state talk about a possible Greenland purchase, but the GOP leader said he took it as a joke.
Readers, it was not a joke.
Q: Does the US intend to buy Greenland?
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2026-01-07T16:31:55.422Z
MARCO RUBIO: That's always been the president's intent
Asked to clarify comments he made to lawmakers behind closed doors on Monday, Rubio told reporters late Wednesday morning that its always been Trumps intent to try to buy Greenland.
Less than an hour later, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said largely the same thing, explaining during a briefing that the president is actively discussing the purchase of Greenland.
Leavitt says Trump is "actively" discussing buying Greenland
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2026-01-07T17:10:56.139Z
As policy priorities go, all of this seems plainly ridiculous. And yet it also raises a host of new and related questions: Where exactly does Trump intend to get the money to buy a massive arctic island that isnt for sale? Is he going to ask Congress to appropriate the funds? Would GOP lawmakers be willing to write an enormous check?
And how embarrassed is the House speaker right now after his took it as a joke line has been publicly discredited by his ostensible allies?
I was also wondering how trump will get Congress to give him the funds to buy Greenland.
