Zelensky: 15-year US security guarantee part of peace proposal

Source: The Hill

12/29/25 7:56 AM ET

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters on Monday that the United States is offering a 15-year security guarantee in the latest draft of the 20-point peace proposal to end Kyiv’s war with Russia.

Zelensky, answering reporters’ questions on WhatsApp, said he would prefer the Trump administration to commit to up to 50 years to deter Russia from launching any further attacks.

“I would like the guarantee to be much longer,” Zelensky said, multiple outlets reported. “I told him that we would very much like to consider the possibility of 30, 40, 50 years,” Zelensky added. “And that would then be a historic decision by President Trump.”

Zelensky told reporters that President Trump said he would consider the Ukrainian leader’s request for more years, The Associated Press reported.

They want something from him and they will have to pay out the nose for it.

Then he will screw over both sides.

We see how that's worked.

trump, "considering," on providing protection for more years, like Zelensky wants, is crap. Its not up to him, and if it was Putin asking, it would be shoved down Ukraine's throat.

Zelensky asks, Putin demands.

He has to go through the motions. He is buying time. While Europe arms enough to help and while Ukrainian drones keep getting better. Hoping to survive until the US gets rid of Trump. Making it as hard as possible for Trump politicallly to completely desert Ukraine or publicly allly himself with Putin. Zelensky is smarter than the rest of us.

Sue?

I understand why Zelensky has to go though these motions. It's quite canny to get these issues out in the open and try to put Trump on the spot, but ultimately Trump will do whatever suits Trump best at any point in time, and in any case he will not be in power when these mooted agreements come into force.

What a future Congress and administration will choose to do is another matter. One would hope that no civilized country would need a formal agreement in order to come to the aid of any country invaded by a rapacious bullying hasbeen superpower.

The GOP in congress will do what their minders tell them to do.

Sir we are into our second year with this one. There are no guarantees. Even the citizens here do not know what their future brings. I suggest you form an alliance with a more stable, trustworthy group. Stay safe. Your bravery and commitment to your people and country is a thing of beauty and strength. I am sorry that the T administration treats you with such disdain. You deserved better.

would be for it to be a formal treaty ratified by the Senate.

And even then, there's a good chance we'd still refuse to help if Russia attacks at some point in the future.

Wasn't Ukraine given a guarantee from Russia some years ago? And how did that turn out?

There will be no consequences when Trump reneges on the security guarantee. And he will. Diddling Donny has NO INTEREST in UKR's, welfare or national integrity. None. Zelenskyy's only hope is that Europe will recoil at Diddling Donny's alliance with Putin and give even more support for Ukraine. Further, they should shun Trump from ANY diplomatic negotiations involving UKR. Donny is on Putin's side, and denying that is in no one's best interests. Trump is a traitor against NATO. It's that simple.
