A blast in Gaza wounds a soldier and Israel accuses Hamas of ceasefire violation

JERUSALEM (AP) — An explosive device detonated in Gaza on Wednesday, injuring one Israeli soldier and prompting Israel to accuse Hamas of violating the U.S.-brokered ceasefire. It was the latest incident to threaten the tenuous truce that has held since Oct. 10 as each side accuses the other of violations.

The blast came as Hamas met with Turkish officials in the country’s capital, Ankara, to discuss the second stage of the ceasefire. Though the agreement has mostly held, its progress has slowed.

All but one of the 251 hostages taken in the Hamas-led attack on Oct. 7, 2023, that sparked the war have been released, alive or dead, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and detainees. The mother of the last hostage whose remains are still in Gaza called for their return before negotiators move to the ceasefire’s second phase.

That phase has even bigger challenges: the deployment of an international stabilization force, a technocratic governing body for Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas and further Israeli troop withdrawals from the territory.

But of course any excuse to delay the second phase. Hate to say it, but there was never going to be a second phase. The poor people of Gaza continue to be tormented during this so-called ceasefire. If it's not the still ongoing bombing, it's the lack of adequate food and shelter. They are now freezing and ill from communicable diseases. Israel is still refusing to allow in tents and mobile homes. With the rains and the cold, their shabby tents overflowing with water, sewage and garbage surrounding them, their lives are utter misery.

But cruelty is not only the point, it's a means to an end. Ethnic cleansing is the goal still, accomplished through inflicting enough misery until they give in, give up and "emigrate".

In the meantime, the gaslighting and manipulation continue. It's sickening.

Truce: 90% of the buildings and infrastructure have been demolished and 50,000 killed. What’s our next move in this genocide? With no homes left to bomb, what to do with these pesky war refugees?

There is no peace in Gaza. What good is a scrap of paper and news release declaring peace in an active genocide military operation? Who to believe, MAGA media or your lying eyes?

Netanyahu violated the ceasefire immediately and has done so every day with his IDF murdering Palestinians because they look suspicious, meaning they look like Palestinians. I don’t know how much worse things have to get for Palestinians before at least some world leaders decide to sanction Israel and end trade and any economic cooperation. Why do leaders all defer to Trump when they know he will do nothing to help anyone but himself?

They've already allowed unthinkable, unspeakable crimes against these humans and not a whimper of contrition or demands for accountability. A pox on all their houses, every one of them. They know what they've done.

Those charges of "Western complicity" repeated by a long-time poster here ring really true for me. They are all complicit. It's an Empire of Lies enabling and covering up for a genocide.
