'Obamacare-lite'? Republicans revolt against Trump's secret health care plan

Source: MS NOW/MSNBC News

Nov. 24, 2025, 2:17 PM EST

President Donald Trump is delaying a planned announcement of a proposal to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies, according to two White House officials, after congressional Republicans pushed back against the president’s sudden embrace of the expiring subsidies. Trump was expected to unveil a plan aimed at halting ACA premium spikes on Monday, as first reported by MS NOW. But the reveal has been postponed — though not canceled — said the White House officials, who were granted anonymity to discuss the internal strategy.

Both White House officials noted that Trump’s announcement — which was never officially on the schedule — would take place soon. But they acknowledged the initial plan, which would have sought to end “surprise premium hikes” for those on Obamacare programs, was being actively reworked. “Until President Trump makes an announcement himself, any reporting about the Administration’s healthcare positions is mere speculation,” White House spokesman Kush Desai said.

While the White House sought to downplay the seriousness of the delay, Republicans indicated they were surprised and angered by a plan that would help preserve the Affordable Care Act.

“I wasn’t expecting the proposal to be Obamacare-lite,” a conservative House Republican, who requested anonymity to discuss the yet-to-be-released plan. “Absolutely not supportive of extending ACA subsidies.” “I’ve talked to enough [Republicans] to know that people weren’t expecting this and aren’t happy about it,” this lawmaker added. “I don’t see how a proposal like this has any chance of getting majority Republican support. We need to be focused on health care, but extending Obamacare isn’t even serious.”

I guess... (another) "2 weeks"?

As I noted before, it took over ONE YEAR and something like 12 Committees (6 in each Chamber) + 2 bills (one that had to be done by reconciliation when we lost our 60 (D) margin in the Senate), to put together what is officially the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act". You can't just throw something else like that together in a few weeks.

They should resign in disgrace and go home. They aren’t qualified for this job.

is to re-jigger the ACA make it ACA-lite? Yippers... sounds like a republican plan. Let the democrats do all the heavy-lifting and actually crafting a healthcare insurance plan, and then change a few words, take out the subsidies, and call it their own. If that's not a good representation of how republicans "govern" I don't know what is!

When he was subbing for CJ on the podium on West Wing. She never let him back again. That was well done.

Trump keeps extending his freak show designed to give him time to think up ways to blame democrats for his utter failures. Total failure at all aspects of life. The leader of the Republican Party.

when the MAGats in KY screamed that they "didn't want no 'Obamacare'" but no one better take away their "kynect" (which is KY's state-run exchange for "Obamacare" ).

Here in PA, ours is called "Pennie".

... and slip it to him when he's not looking. He might just buy it. He likes anything with his name on it and never actually reads anything. Maybe he could force the congressional critters to pass it in his name.

Take advantage of his dementia. I think that's what Mamdani is trying.

tRump's plan will bankrupt then kill Americans. I am one of them. FUCK YOU ASSHOLES!!!

I CAN NOT AFFORD $1,200 A MONTH FOR ACA!!!
I pay $194 a month and make under $33,000 a year after taxes in expensive CA.
The increase will be over 25% of my income.

That's OK though, since I do not want to live in this shithole country so it will be a blessing in disguise.

Before I die I would love to see him suffer in tremendous pain and agony for the rest of his life now and if he is reincarnated in all of his future lives as well. Burn in hell motherfucker!!!!!!!!!

Thousands of fellow Americans share my fate.

I want to completely DESTROY him and his spawn in every way imaginable. I will celebrate their demise as I die due to their sadistic hatred and greed.

I will NOT hide my immense hatred for him. I couldn't, even if I wanted to. He has basically killed me.

I wish I weren't an Atheist because I'd love to see him burn and writhe in agonizing pain in hell.
