LINCOLN The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services this week posted a message on its website from Gov. Jim Pillen that blames Democrats for the government shutdown and freezing of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funds in November.
The message attributed to the Republican governor at the top of the DHHS homepage reads: "Due to a failure by Democrats in the U.S. Senate to pass a clean funding bill, resulting in a government shutdown, SNAP benefits that many Nebraska families and kids depend on are now unavailable in November."
Pillen, who is on a trade mission in Israel this week, continues, "Sadly, there is a wealth of misinformation coming from Senate Democrats. This shutdown was absolutely preventable. Omaha State Sen. Terrell McKinney, a Democrat, criticized the message being on a state website.
