'Big betrayal': Trump accused of breaking campaign promises by major union

Source: Raw Story

September 1, 2025 4:19PM ET

Although President Donald Trump's administration likes to boast that it puts "American workers first," several news reports published on Monday document the president's attacks on the rights of working people and labor unions.

As longtime labor reporter Steven Greenhouse explained in The Guardian, Trump, throughout his second term, has "taken dozens of actions that hurt workers, often by cutting their pay or making their jobs more dangerous."

Among other things, Greenhouse cited Trump's decision to halt a regulation intended to protect coal miners from lung disease, as well as his decision to strip a million federal workers of their collective bargaining rights.

Liz Shuler, president of the AFL-CIO, told Greenhouse that Trump's actions amount to a "big betrayal" of his promises to look out for US workers during the 2024 presidential campaign. "His attacks on unions are coming fast and furious," she said. "He talks a good game of being for working people, but he's doing the absolute opposite. This is a government that is by, and for, the CEOs and billionaires."

Quelle surprise. DJT lying. What is this, fool me once, shame on you; fool me 30,000+ times, shame on you? When do they get to shame on me? Were they in a coma during his first term?

I don't understand any union member supporting any kind of Republican, let alone that one. REPUBLICANS DO NOT SUPPORT UNIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.

11. O'Brien is an idiot

Sean O'Brien, the general president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters spoke at the Trump convention in 2024. He claimed he didn't endorse pedo Trump. But he did promote the party. Which is the same thing.

When the party betrayed unions under Reagan, O'Brien thought he would give them another chance to do it again.

Trump's tweet on Juneteenth makes it clear he hates workers. “Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers don’t want it either! Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump thinks union workers, and all employees, don't work enough. He thinks we all need to work more. He thinks 11 holidays a year is way too many.

He also thinks businesses close on holidays. They don't. There's no requirement for businesses to close during those 11 days. Businesses do not lose money on holidays. Some make big bucks on Holidays because it frees up people to go shopping. They may have to pay their workers extra to work those days, but there is no requirement for them to close.

Pedo Trump never worked a day in his life, nor shopped in person in decades. Otherwise he would know businesses are Not closed on Holidays. He is an idiot I guess that's why O'Brien supports the pedo. Two peas in a pod?

For some folks, it is in their nature.

You knew he was a snake when you voted to put him in the White House.

Hell, he told us all repeatedly. He would not shut up about fools letting snakes into their house.

Devil is in the details. I worked with these stupid, racist morons at my job. Smile at your face and then knife you in the back at the first opportunity. I'm retired and I'm sure they still get a little laugh about me calling their cowardice out. Mf'ers. Can't reason with them either. Unfortunately, they need to live on the streets before they realize just who "has their backs." I'm glad I don't need to work with those snakes anymore.
