President Trump said the country is losing money due to the number of federal holidays on Thursday, which marks Juneteenth, the newest addition to the U.S. holiday calendar.

“Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed,” the president wrote in a Truth Social post. “The workers don’t want it either,” he added.

Government employees are traditionally given the day off on federal holidays while receiving pay. Juneteenth, created to celebrate the freedom of enslaved Black Americans, was designated as a federal holiday in 2021 by former President Biden.

“Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote on Thursday. The president did not participate in any Juneteenth events or celebrations.

President Donald Trump took to his social media platform on Thursday to say that there are "too many non-working holidays in America."

His comments come on Juneteenth, the federal holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

Trump claimed that federal holidays are costing the country billions of dollars, and workers do not support them either.

"It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump wrote.

Former President Joe Biden enshrined Juneteenth as a federal holiday in 2021, and it was celebrated at the White House every June 19 of his administration.

Notably, the White House kept a full schedule on Thursday.
