good grief!! ICE just stomps into a polling place. This would certainly intimidate lots of voters, especially if Trump deployed them outside the stations.

📹 WATCH: ICE agents were caught on camera confronting a poll worker at a voting site in New York.
The alarming incident comes as prominent figures on the far right have called for ICE agents to be deployed to polling places in the midterms a clear effort to intimidate voters.

Re the shortened url: DuckDuckGo has a browser that blocks ads and tracking, and it has an integrated youtube viewer that plays vids (with captions, speed control, etc.) without notifying google -- just the video on a plain black page. So nice.

Acccompanying text article.
"The agents handed Gonyea a form letter that says they were investigating threats made against ICE personnel. The form says the agents had identified an Instagram account they believe breaks federal law. They asked her to remove and discontinue the behavior, according to the unsigned document she shared on Instagram.
This notice officially informs you that it is unlawful to threaten to assault, kidnap, and/or murder a federal official or that federal officials immediate family member with the intent to impede, intimidate, and/or interfere with the federal officials duties or retaliate against a federal official due to the performance of their duties, the document said."

"Czarny said election law authorizes only specific people to be inside a polling place: Poll workers, elections inspectors, voters eligible to vote at the site and someone a voter brought to assist them in voting.
Theres no role for law enforcement officials to be inside a polling place unless they are responding to an emergency of some kind, he said. There is no indication of that here. "
And now ICE has tested their pretext for entering a polling place and intimidating people. Expect this to become common. Cases will be appealed up to the Extreme Court, who will find legitimate reasons for ICE to enter polling places.

(26,824 posts)at the polls. If that means having National Guard or police present at some polls and ready to be quickly sent to others, then that's what we should do. It risks physical confrontation betwern ICE and NG/police but doing nothing just kicks the can down the road.
The sooner you stop a bully, the less bloody the fight if it comes. Standing up to the bullying and intimidation attempts soon enough and firmly enough might even prevent confrontations from becoming all out physical battles.

(1,400 posts)regarding the name of a Border Patrol Agent who killed Renee Good. The Ice Agents contacted her. She was afraid to meet them outside alone (who would blame her). She asked them to come inside the building where she was a poll worker. They did. The threatened her to remover her social media post. She refused.
