My husband said "So glad I have the money"

A friend called and asked for a loan to pay an immigration attorney for her husband. She is native Minnesotan married to a man from Jamaica for 25 years. Apparently somewhere a long the way they lost his visa paperwork. She called me today asking for a loan to pay an attorney to get his permanent resident status restored/established. I don't know all the details but apparently one of the obstacles that stopped him from getting citizenship is dyslexia. They are hopeful that he can get the permanent resident status for him.
He has been here for over 30 years and has been married to a US citizen for 25 of those years.
There is something very wrong about this situation.
