I'm on the west coast and just got up. When did the tarp go up? I'm not seeing much in the way of reporting on it. Any estimates on "the reveal"? Or does the felon wanna just keep it covered forever?

(131,682 posts)They missed the midnight deadline for the removal of the letters, got an extension until noon today, and before they did start in on that process at about 1:00 ET they hung up a tarp so nobody could see them take the letters off. Somebody did get a photo from the side of the wall of a worker taking off the D (or maybe the P), so presumably by now the letters are gone (the 12-hour extension expires in 45 minutes), but the tarp remains.

(6,788 posts)It is a real insult to all of us to deny us the ability to see the court order fulfilled.
But it is a larger afront to the people who were there for hours yesterday in the heat...and rain...and a thunderstorm.
Just one more example that he not a president for the people of this country. He is a con man who has taken over the oval office.

I'd bet that a condition of the extension of the ceasefire is that it is signed on his birthday. When it isn't, he'll have a tantrum and it will fall apart.

Not a criticism really. I just find it fascinating that people are fixated on this. It's always the oddest little things that capture attention on social media as a symbol for larger sentiment.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has been restored to its original name.
President Donald Trumps name was officially cleared from the marble façade of the storied cultural institution on Saturday, the Kennedy Center said, after last-minute attempts by the Trump administration to delay a federal judges ruling that the name cannot be changed.
Theres still some legal wrangling on the horizon, but at this point, its worth pausing to note how exactly the Kennedy Center was restored to its legal name.
On Friday, a crowd assembled to watch crews remove Trumps name from the wall, and while I wasnt personally there, by all accounts, the audience was prepared to celebrate a good show. The Washington Post reported, The atmosphere was festival-like: People brought their dogs, their partners and their children.....
But as of late Sunday, the public still wasnt allowed to see the work that had been done.
Workers are adding a curtain obstructing the view of the removal of Donald Trumpâs name from the Kennedy Center

The removal of Trumps name was poised to be a symbolically significant event. The authoritarian-minded leader, fixated on self-glorification, tried to force his name onto a memorial for a celebrated assassinated president, a court instead upheld the law, and a crowd assembled to watch the crew precisely because of the indelible images that would soon emerge.
But Trumps team, no doubt mindful of the circumstances, preferred a literal cover-up.
Its something to keep in mind the next time White House officials boast about the president and his administration enthusiastically embracing transparency.
As for the future of the Kennedy Center, the presidents appointees at the venue announced over the weekend that they had established the Trump Kennedy Center Fund, which will purportedly help raise money for the center. Trump, the appointees added, will be the chairman.
trump is a baby. There is no way that his name will be put back onto this building without an act of congress.
