Judge Belize

Title

Judge Leon M. Bazile, Indictment for Felony
Description

"Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix."--Judge Leon Bazile in Caroline County Court, 1958
Source

Court Records. Reproduction from microfilm. Caroline County (Va.) Commonwealth v. Richard Perry Loving and Mildred Dolores Jeter, 1958-1966. Caroline County (Va.) Reel 79. Local Government Records Collection, Caroline County Court Records, The Library of Virginia.

how stupid, about as stupid as Alito reaching back to a middle ages "brother" to justify taking away the right of bodily autonomy of women!

I don't mind religion... ANY religion... as long as people keep it to themselves and don't harm anything they're free to believe whatever they want, IMO. But they should have NO right to force *their* proscriptions on anyone else, believer or not. And for the judge to invoke "god" in this instance is a special insult to the couple, the country, and the Constitution. These are the types of judges we used to refer back for remedial education, before the repugs starting taking control of the govt, ala Nixon.
