General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI'm getting tired of "reporter's" questions which resemble the following:
So Mr Comey, we here at CNN are aware of your history with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, also known by many, but not all, as the FBI, whose pronunciation in the film Die Hard by the actor, unfortunately for all of us deceased, Alan Rickman, who was also in the Harry Potter films, was a classic articulation of the letters, and are also acknowledging as I am certain you would, that at one point for a certain number of years, you were head of the organization. So my my question today, right now, addressed to you and you alone is, were you aware, from reports, agency gossip, wiretaps, satellite viewing technology whether Jeffrey Epstein was actually circumcised in accordance with Jewish tradition?
I swear, half of the interviews are the relating of a partial history to the viewer who, if he or she is in fact unaware of the topic, is not really going to benefit by a short summation. And the fun part, as above, is that the question is often trite or in the case of Fox, a leading biased question which allows the respondent to launch into a hate-filled snarky response disparaging anyone to the Left of Attila the Hun.
These people need to read some old journalistic textbooks and wise up.
But that aint gonna happen.

Excellent interview.

(131,156 posts)Maybe the interviewer is trying to show off his/her erudition, or make sure he/she is occupying enough air time, or maybe they are assuming the audience is ignorant, which may be true for some but it's insulting nevertheless, and that ignorance is too big a hole to fill that way anyhow. My favorite most irritating interviewer is Ari Melber, who prefaces almost every comment relating to a legal matter about how careful he is to be sure he's fair and some explanation about everybody being entitled to the presumption of innocence and we're not going to assume anything because we always try to be fair, blah blah blah.

(11,346 posts)I'm totally cool with that, even though I am completely clueless on some of the lyrics and artists. But the overly long intros and disclaimers are annoying as hell.

(28,559 posts)it would not surprise me in the least if he were doing this schtick to avoid potential lawsuits and/or hes the biggest overachiever Ive seen in a while.
I know Im in the minority here, but I find him peculiar.

(131,156 posts)Between his pompous disclaimers about how thorough and fair he is and his cringe Cool Dad shtick where he gets down with the rappers or quotes lyrics to his guests who clearly have no idea what he's talking about, I don't think he'll ever be ready for prime time.

(4,132 posts). . . on the panels where the host asks one panelist a question only to have that person get out one sentence then everyone else jumps in and they all talk for five minutes.
I change channels or turn it off after about a minute of that.
