Until today, I had never equated the sound of honking horns with Democracy and Freedom.

I arrived at our local No Kings protest at 1:15 and shockingly to me I had a very PTSD event. I am not an emotional person, but apparently it has been a very long 5 years for me. I sat in my car and cried for about 15 minutes listening to the cars honking supporting “We the people”. The honking of horns suddenly became the sound of freedom and democracy.

I don’t know what I am more impressed by, the 200 plus people that were out showing their support for democracy or the literally thousands that were driving by beeping, waving, supporting in their own way. Prior to the election, I thought the young would save us. Today I was amazed by the walkers, canes and scooters, parents with children, the young, the old everyone sign waving and cheerleading and everyone beeping, waving and supporting. There were even those surley people who were not impressed yelling some unflattering things but that too is democracy.

After an hour and a half of holding my GOT related sign “ we have had idiot kings and ruthless kings but never have we had such a ruthless idiot king”, I am back in my car listening again to the sound of freedom and democracy. The horns bring me comfort and stiffen my resolve. It also affirms Mr Lewis life of”Good Trouble”. He would have loved a day like today.
