KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) A pastor in Missouri was suspended last week after it was discovered she worked for and managed the private island of late-sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for nearly a year.
On Thursday, Bishop Robert Farr of the Missouri Conference of The United Methodist Church placed Rev. Stephanie L. Remington on leave, pending a review by the episcopal office.
Remington reportedly worked as Epsteins administrative assistant and temporary property manager of his private island, Little Saint James, from August 2018 to May 2019. Epstein was arrested just two months later, in July 2019, for sex trafficking crimes, and then died in his cell by alleged suicide in August.
Despite having worked closely with the disgraced financier, Remington told United Methodist (UM) News that she never saw Epstein or anyone commit abuse on the island. However, she did admit that when she accepted the job she knew Epstein was a registered sex offender who had served 18 months for the conviction.

(22,537 posts)If so, I'm not aware of it.
I'm hoping you didn't mean ALL churches / religions, because that's much too broad a brush, imo. As we all know, pedophiles can be found anywhere, but not every religion or Christian denomination has the same sloppy 🙈🙉🙊approach to handling these problems as say, the Catholic Church, the LDS, or certain fundamentalist/evangelical denominations.

(25,324 posts)I never saw my parents have sex, but I know they slept in the same bed for 40 years and had seven children together.
My deduction is that my parents were, indeed, having sex.
Her conclusion seemed to be "If I don't see it, it is not happening". See no evil, hear no evil, keep your mouth shut.

(19,236 posts)and an outlier instead of the truth that everyone working there is some sort of opportunistic grifter/scumbag/parasite. Because that is the nature of churches. But the public image is what matters, that's what quiets the cognitive dissonance, so getting rid of the one where it is staring everyone in the face is enough.

The article didn't say she was blind and deaf.

(6,661 posts)If she wasn't suspicious that it would reflect badly on her, why did she lie on her resume?
And who believes she didn't see a bunch of creepy sh*t inside the buildings while she was there, even if no active abuse was taking place at the time?
